MBM Accreditation
Until August 2007, we used the term Pre-Experience Masters in General Management (PEMM) to describe MBM (Masters in Business and Management) programmes. The change was made to provide greater clarity, but all programmes that achieved our PEMM accreditation continue to be accredited by us as MBM programmes.

Introduction to MBM Accreditation
The Association’s MBM (Masters in Business and Management) Accreditation service has been running since 2005. Schools wishing to apply for accreditation of their MBM programme(s) should carefully review the information on this page. Please be aware that MBM accreditation is not available to schools offering an unaccredited MBA programme. Please contact Mr Mark Stoddard, Accreditation Projects Manager, if you require any further information about our MBM accreditation service.
The MBM is a Masters-level, postgraduate programme with an integrated perspective of the disciplines of business and management, which can be aimed at students with no prior work experience.
The current MBM criteria have been assembled by the senior academics that sit on the IAAB, following extensive consultation with employers and institutions offering MBMs.

Overview of MBMCriteria
Our accreditation criteria focus on every aspect of MBM provision at the candidate institution. These include:
THE INSTITUTION
The institution offering a MBM should have a clear strategy and mission, explicitly expressed and regularly updated. It will have a clear understanding of the market for its products. This will include a means of regular access to employer opinion. The institution should have its own identity and an adequate degree of independence from any larger institutional structure of which it may be a part, as well as secured financial viability and institutional continuity.
FACULTY
Faculty teaching at Masters level must be appropriately qualified and credible. At least 75% of teaching staff should have a relevant postgraduate degree. It is expected that the majority of faculty will hold a Doctorate. Research should be of a high quality in all areas of activity and show some evidence of an international dimension.
STUDENTS
The MBM is intended for graduates from any discipline. There is no requirement for prior work experience. However, there should be an expectation on the part of the institution that the student will be able to fulfil the objectives of the programme and achieve the standard required for the reward.
STRUCTURE AND ASSESSMENT
Institutions should be able to demonstrate that Masters-level learning is achieved across the programme. The curriculum must be comprehensive in terms of its coverage of a variety of areas of management, which must be viewed in an integrated context across various disciplines. The applied nature of parts of the degree demands a range of teaching and learning methods. The assessment scheme should have detailed criteria and specify the range and relative values of the various assessment methods used. The assessment scheme should be comprehensive and consistent.
ADDITIONAL FACTORS
Accreditation is also based on factors such as the availability of language teaching, library and computer facilities and international contacts. The extent to which students’ reactions are taken into account in the continuing process of course design and improvement is also important.
